Nancy Pelosi backs Harris’ candidacy in the US presidential election

US Representative Nancy Pelosi, former speaker of the House of Representatives and influential voice in the Democratic Party, announced on Monday that they are calling for Vice President Kamala Harris to run for the party in the November presidential election.

Pelosi said in a statement, “My fervent support for Kamala Harris as a presidential candidate is official, personal and political… There is no doubt that Kamala Harris is very good as a woman in politics, and I have full confidence that she will lead us to victory in November”.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign said on Monday she raised $81 million in the first 24 hours after announcing she was seeking the Democratic presidential nomination.

The amount includes funds raised through the campaign, the Democratic National Committee and joint fundraising committees, the campaign said in a statement.
