Iran: We confirm that there are indirect negotiations with the United States in Muscat which aren’t the first of their kind and won’t be the last
Iran’s mission to the United Nations has confirmed news circulating about indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington, in the Omani capital, Muscat.
According to the Iranian representation, the indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington in Muscat aren’t the first of their kind, and won’t be the last.
Last month, an informed source denied to the Iranian news agency IRNA the existence of direct negotiations between Iran and the United States, stressing that the exchange of messages takes place within the frameworks previously in force.
The source pointed out that the Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister and chief negotiator on the nuclear file, Ali Bagheri Kani, is following the talks to lift sanctions with the member states of the nuclear deal.
According to him, some media outlets claimed direct talks between representatives of Iran and the United States, and that there were some changes in negotiating mechanisms.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian announced in a statement to Iranian media about his visit to New York that they were discussed, through diplomatic means, to end sanctions on Iran.
