The German chancellor is facing a mounted political pressure to send Taurus missiles to Ukraine
Pressure mounted on German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz; to deliver Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, to confront the Russian forces.
Politicians from the coalition partners, the Green Party, the Free Democratic Party, and the opposition Christian Democratic Union, stressed the importance of these weapons, according to Rheinische Post newspaper.
Sarah Nanni, defense spokeswoman for the Green Party parliamentary group in the Bundestag, said that sending Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine was long overdue.
She added, “The most effective protection against Russian air strikes is to fire on targets on Russian territory and in the occupied areas in eastern Ukraine, from which Russia launches its attacks”.
As for Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, member of the Bundestag, and defense expert in the Free Democratic Party, said Germany should hand over Taurus missiles in order to disrupt Russian supply lines.
She stressed, “We shouldn’t be afraid of our courage,” adding, “This is what Putin hopes for”.
