The New York Times discussed how Hamas succeeded in surprising and overcoming the Israeli army last Saturday.

The New York Times said, Hamas fighters rushed into Israel in a highly organized and carefully planned operation, which indicates a deep understanding of Israel’s weaknesses.

New York Times explained that the ten gunmen from Gaza knew exactly how to find the Israeli intelligence center and how to enter it, after crossing into Israel, they headed east on five motorcycles, with two gunmen on board each vehicle.

Ten miles later, they veered off the road into a wooded area, climbed outside an unoccupied gate into a military base, and detonated the checkpoint with a small explosive device.

For a moment, the attackers seemed unsure of where to go next.

Then one of them pulled something out of his pocket, a color-coded map of the complex.

After being redirected, they found an open door to a fortified building, and once inside, they entered a room full of computers – a military intelligence center.

This sequence was captured with a camera mounted on the head of the gunman, who was later killed.

The New York Times reviewed the footage, then verified the events by interviewing Israeli officials and also verifying the Israeli military video of the attack.

According to New York Times, “Thanks to careful planning and extraordinary awareness of Israel’s secrets and weaknesses, Hamas and its allies were able to control enemy settlements shortly after dawn”.

Likewise, The New York Times confirmed that using drones, Hamas destroyed key observation and communications towers along the border with Gaza, imposing vast blind spots on the Israeli army.

Israeli officials say that Hamas, using explosives and tractors, blew gaps in the border barriers, allowing 200 attackers to pour in in the first wave and another 1,800 later that day.

Aboard motorcycles and small trucks, the attackers stormed Israel and took control of at least 8 military bases.

Hamas’s planning documents, videos of the attack, and interviews with security officials show that the group had a surprisingly sophisticated understanding of how the Israeli army operates, where certain units are stationed, and even how long it will take for reinforcements to arrive.

Meanwhile, words come as Israeli officials are still exchanging accusations, holding Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, responsible for the failure.

In recent days, the Israeli media has talked about the shock experienced by the Israeli security and military establishment, following the catastrophic intelligence failure that emerged last Saturday, with Hamas attack.
