Turkish shipping sources indicated that a missile hit a Turkish-owned cargo ship in the port city of Kherson on Tuesday.

Maritime security firm Ambry said the missile hit the Tuzla’s wheelhouse, causing the fire.

A video footage showed flames filling the ship’s wheelhouse.

The ship, which has been stuck in port since February 2022, is operated by Gaili Shipping, which couldn’t be reached for comment.

A Turkish shipping source said that there are 12 Turkish ships parked in Ukrainian ports, including Kherson, and that these ships are not covered by the agreement to export grain across the Black Sea, which was mediated by the United Nations.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “An attack took place Tuesday evening, most likely on the port, and that an explosive device apparently hit the ship… The Turkish ships in Kherson are manned by minimal crew members, so there were no injuries or loss of life”.
