Two Syrian soldiers were wounded in an Israeli bombardment that targeted, on Monday-Tuesday, sites in the vicinity of Damascus, according to the official Syrian news agency, SANA.

“The Israeli enemy carried out an air aggression with barrages of missiles… targeting some points in the vicinity of the city of Damascus,” SANA quoted an unnamed military source as saying.

SANA added, “Our air defenses intercepted the aggression’s missiles and shot down a number of them,” noting that “the aggression resulted two soldiers wounded and some material losses”.

Agence France-Presse correspondents in Damascus confirmed the sound of explosions in the vicinity of the Syrian capital.

Sources in Damascus noted that the bombardment targeted an arms depot belonging to the Lebanese Hezbollah, located between Damascus International Airport and the Sayeda Zeinab area in the south of the Syrian capital.

From time to time, Israel bombs several sites in Syria, the latest of which, on November 19, targeted sites in Homs and Hama, killing four Syrian soldiers, according to official media.

At that time, the bombing came about a week after Israel targeted the Shayrat military airport in the center of the country, killing two soldiers and injuring three others.

During the past years, Israel launched hundreds of air strikes in Syria, targeting sites of the Syrian army, Iranian targets, and others of the Lebanese Hezbollah.

Israel rarely confirms the implementation of the strikes, but it reiterates that it will continue to confront what it describes as Iran’s attempts to consolidate its military presence in Syria.
