Ukrainian passports for sale online
The Famous Russian advertiser and online selling and buying website avito.ru has placed an offer to sell Ukrainian citizenship by obtaining a Ukrainian passport that will allow buyers to cross European borders more easily 2022.
The application price for a Ukrainian passport has been set at 80,000 Russian Rubles ($1,250).
The demand for Ukrainian passport isn’t a great idea, but it’s there.
The serial numbers on the Ukrainian passport are reportedly from the Lugansk region.
An unnamed Ukrainian official said it was likely because equipment used to make passports had been stolen.
According to US sources, it’s likely that the forms and equipment for issuing Ukrainian passports were taken from regions which Russia took control, however the Ukrainian government recorded the missing passport application numbers and submitted them to European governments, so these passports aren’t valid anymore.
A Ukrainian military expert Roman Svetan offered a similar explanation, as a lot of documents were stolen by pro-Russian collaborators.
It’s not clear though, how many passports were sold, or if any customers were able to use them to travel to other countries.
While Ukrainians have been allowed to travel without a visa within the EU’s Schengen area since 2017, some operators began offering free travel by train, bus and plane after Russian invasion of Ukraine in February.
