The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed the possibility of “returning things to normal in relations with Syria, as happened with Egypt”.

This came during a meeting he held with young people on the sidelines of his visit to Konya, central Türkiye, on Saturday, to inaugurate service projects.

Erdogan said, “Things can return to normal with Syria in the next stage, as happened with Egypt, as there is no permanent rivalry in politics”.

He indicated that he learned from the news that his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah al Sisi, was very happy following their meeting in Qatar, on the sidelines of the opening of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

He stated that the path of normalization between Türkiye and Egypt will continue in the coming period at the ministerial level.

He pointed out that the meeting with Sisi took place in Qatar, following mediation by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani.

He explained that he told the Egyptian president that what Ankara wants is to end the existing dispute and that there should be no problem between the two countries in the Mediterranean.

Erdogan indicated that he learned, in the context of the information and news he received later, that al Sisi is very happy from the meeting, and that he, in turn, expressed his happiness as well.

Erdogan added, “The path has now begun to normalize relations, and it will continue with our ministers”.

He stressed the importance of the ties between Türkiye and the Egyptian people in the Mediterranean, stressing that “the space should not be given in this regard to other parties, such as Greece”.

“So I think there will be good developments,” he added.

On the other hand, Erdogan indicated that “resolving the differences between Türkiye and the Gulf states spoiled the conspiracies that were being hatched”.

He stressed that “relations between Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates have become in a very good position, and this is disturbing to some parties”.
