The Jerusalem Post: Queen Elizabeth toured the countries of the world and didn’t visit Israel
The Israeli Jerusalem Post newspaper said that the late British Queen Elizabeth II, who toured the world during her 70 years on the throne of Britain, had never visited Israel.
The Jerusalem Post newspaper reported that she visited Jordan, Egypt and other countries in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as dozens of other countries, where she visited 43 countries for the first time after reaching the age of 50, and she visited Canada alone 27 times.
The Jerusalem Post reported, quoting The New York Times, that the Queen’s visit to Jordan in 1984 caused concern among British Jews, as her statements at the time, which showed sympathy for the “plight of the Palestinians” and her apparent dissatisfaction with the Israeli actions, left More than just amazement in those circles.
The Jerusalem Post pointed out that despite that, the Queen’s attitudes towards the Israelis were good, as she received the Israeli presidents Chaim Herzog and Ezra Weizmann, and also awarded an honorary title to Shimon Peres.
Herzog invited Queen Elizabeth to visit Israel, but she never came, but her late husband Prince Philip, her two sons Prince Edward and Prince Charles, who was declared king after her death, and her grandson Prince William, all visited Israel, each on their own.
However, the only official visit was that of Prince William.
According to the newspaper, there was a common belief that the British Foreign Office advised the Queen not to visit Israel for fear of a boycott by Arab countries, but even after any real fear of the boycott and the oil embargo had disappeared, the Queen didn’t come.
