Turkey expects the economy to grow by more than 5% in 2021

The Turkish Finance Minister said on Thursday, that gross domestic product will grow more than 5% this year, supported by an increase in exports between 16 and 20% after the repercussions of the pandemic in 2020.

Minister Lotfi Alwan reiterated, in an interview with CNN Turk, that the GDP growth will be in the double digits in the second quarter of the year.

He added that exports of arms and cars would help control the huge deficit in the current account balance.

A Reuters poll between April 6 and 13 expected the economy to grow by 4.8% in 2021, and 14.9% in the second quarter, affected by the so-called base period after the repercussions of the pandemic in 2020.

The Turkish economy grew 1.8% last year.
