The Italian Foreign Minister proposes a European anti-terrorism law based on the US Patriot Act, in the wake of the Vienna attacks

Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio proposed Tuesday a European anti-terror law, similar to the American Patriot Act, in the wake of the Vienna attacks, in a message on Facebook.

“We must take measures to avoid the catastrophic attacks that occurred in Nice,” where three people were killed five days ago, and “Vienna”, where four people were killed, on Monday evening, Di Maio declared.

“We have to start thinking about something bigger that includes the entire European Union: a European law to combat terrorism on the American model, for example, because today we are the children of one European people,” he added.

“A state’s security is the security of all other countries.

And the US “Patriot” Act, passed in 2001 in the wake of the bloody attacks in the United States, amends some basic freedoms and allows for a greater margin of maneuver for intelligence agencies to investigate counterterrorism cases.

Di Maio said, “It is clear that Europe and Italy cannot continue to use the same circumstantial terms” about the attacks that occurred in recent days.

“The problems must be faced,” he explained.

The European Union should enhance its security levels, “including” tightening control over mosques, in cooperation with Islamic circles and moderate Islam, which has always condemned the attacks.
