Middle East Eye: The US led international coalition opens an investigation into the appearance of the word “infidel” on a US vehicle in Hasakah northeastern Syria
The US-led international coalition announced an internal investigation after “inappropriate” graffiti appeared on a US military vehicle during a patrol in northeastern Syria, near the city of Hasakah.
The word in Arabic “Kafir” (infidel) appeared on the front of the vehicle alongside a Christian cross, symbols that sparked widespread resentment among local residents, who considered them offensive and provocative, especially given ISIS’s use of these terms to justify violence in previous years.
In a statement published on the Middle East Eye website, the coalition stressed that these graffiti don’t represent the policy of the US Department of Defense and don’t reflect the professional values of its forces, explaining that disciplinary action will be taken against those involved.
The statement emphasized that the primary mission of the coalition forces has not changed: to support efforts to eliminate ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
It’s worth noting that the number of US troops in Syria currently stands at approximately 2,000, and this number is expected to decrease in the coming months.
