Walla: The Israeli army completes its preparations for a ground incursion into southern Lebanon
The Israeli Walla website quoted Israeli security officials as saying that there is a consensus at the political and military levels that a ground attack on Lebanon is a matter of time.
Although the decision hasn’t yet been made at the political level, the Walla website has learned that the Israeli army is completing major operations as part of preparations for ground maneuvers in southern Lebanon, on the basis that in order to return the residents of northern Israel to their homes, the nearby “terrorist infrastructure” must be destroyed and Hezbollah must be effectively eliminated.
Preparations for the maneuver are being made first by collecting accurate intelligence information about Hezbollah’s military preparations in general and the Radwan Force in particular, and developing new operational plans that are compatible with the changes in the territory of southern Lebanon and Hezbollah’s manpower.
The Israeli military continues to mass its forces along the country’s border with Lebanon in preparation for a possible invasion, while preparing for any response from Hezbollah after the massive attack by Israeli aircraft on the southern suburbs of Beirut on Friday evening.
Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi this week ordered ground forces to prepare to “enter enemy territory”.
According to the Washington Post, soldiers and residents in the north said they were ready to fight in any way Israel’s leaders decided.
The Israeli military said it had called up two reserve brigades for operational missions in the north, where cross-border shelling with Lebanon’s Hezbollah has been escalating.
