Türkiye: Turkish security mobilizes its forces and launches a large-scale anti-terrorism operation

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on Tuesday the launch of a large-scale anti-terrorism operation in various regions of the country, in which more than 13,000 members of the security forces will participate.

The Interior Minister wrote on X, “Beginning at 08:30, 466 anti-terrorism operations were carried out throughout Türkiye, in which 13,440 security personnel participated… 12 members of terrorist organizations were arrested in Mersin, Van, Şanlıurfa, Mardin and Aydın”.

It was also announced that at least 55 people were arrested in various regions suspected of involvement in terrorist organizations and acts.

Turkish media reports suggested that the operation against PKK militants would include the border areas.

The Turkish Ministry of the Interior announced on Sunday that its building in Ankara had been subjected to a terrorist attack carried out by two people.

The first blew himself up, while the second was eliminated, and two security men were wounded in an exchange of fire.

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) later claimed responsibility for the suicide attack that targeted the General Directorate of Security of the Ministry of Interior in Ankara.

For its part, the Turkish Ministry of Interior announced that the perpetrator of the attack was affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, called Hasan Oğuz, nicknamed “Kanivar Erdal”.
