US citizen Alex Pretti worked as a male nurse in a veterans’ intensive care unit in Minneapolis and his family said he “dreamed of changing the world” before he was shot dead Saturday by federal security agents deployed in the city as part of a campaign against irregular immigration.

Pretti, (37), was killed after a skirmish with the federal agents in the Midwestern city.

His death exacerbates already high tensions in Minneapolis following the January 7 shooting death of 37-year-old Renee Good, also by federal security agents.

Local officials grew angry after the latest killing, questioning President Donald Trump’s administration’s hasty remarks accusing Pretti of trying to attack security agents while he was participating in a protest against the massive crackdown on immigration.

Pretti’s parents said in a statement Saturday that he was “kind-hearted and kind, and deeply cared for his family and friends,” as well as the veterans he cared for at a specialized hospital in Minneapolis.

“Alex dreamed of changing the world… Unfortunately, he won’t be here to see his impact”.

According to local media, Pretti graduated from high school in Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 2006 and then studied nursing before joining the Department of Veterans Affairs.

After René Good was shot dead, Pretti began participating in protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

While the Trump administration is trying to portray Pretti as trying to violently assault security forces, this narrative is contradicted by a video widely circulated by the US media.

His parents confirmed that he intervened when a security officer pushed a protester before he was killed.

They denounced the Trump administration’s disgusting lies, noting that the gun found in the possession of their son, who had a firearm license, wasn’t in his hand when he was shot by security officers.

“He was clearly defenseless when he was attacked by the cowardly and murderous agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement sent by Trump,” his parents said in a statement.

“He was holding his phone in his right hand and raising his empty left hand above his head, trying to protect the women who were thrown to the ground by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, while they were pepper sprayed,” they said.

The family asked the American public to spread the truth about Pretti, who was a “A good man… Our hearts are broken, and we are very angry,” his family said.
