The Syrian transitional president, Ahmed al Sharaa, will participate in the Concordia 2025 Summit, as the event will take place on the sidelines of his visit to New York to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Sharaa will deliver the first speech by a Syrian president before the United Nations since 1967.

Concordia confirmed, via its official account on X, Friday, its readiness to host President Sharaa as part of its events schedule, which will be held in conjunction with the United Nations meetings in New York City, during the period from September 21 to 24, 2025.

In his upcoming speech, Sharaa will focus on reconstruction issues, building international partnerships, and strengthening multilateral cooperation, at a pivotal political moment for Syria, which is undergoing a period of regional and international political repositioning.

According to the Syrian Foreign Ministry, Sharaa will address the General Assembly during the high-level debate, which will be held from September 23 to 29.

This speech is expected to mark a milestone in Syria’s return to the international stage after years of isolation and turmoil.

This is al Sharaa’s most prominent appearance on the international stage since his meeting with former US President Donald Trump in Riyadh, as his visit to the US itself is a decisive diplomatic turning point toward consolidating international recognition of the transitional government in Syria.

The Concordia Summit is an annual, non-partisan global forum held in New York during the United Nations General Assembly.

Founded in 2011, it serves as a platform for world leaders, business leaders, civil society representatives, and think tanks to discuss solutions to major global challenges, such as: sustainable development, global economy, climate change, social justice, human rights, and digital transformation and innovation.

The summit focuses on strengthening public-private partnerships and achieving tangible impact on global issues through cooperation and dialogue among various parties.

Sharaa’s participation in the Concordia Summit and his anticipated speech at the UN General Assembly represent a historic opportunity to re-present Syria in a new light and re-engage with the international system based on a different political vision.

Observers believe this diplomatic move could pave the way for bilateral meetings with a number of world leaders, enhancing Syria’s chances of building new alliances and overcoming its previous period of isolation and conflict.
