The Russian Central Bank adds 12 currencies to its official exchange rate
The Central Bank of Russia announced, starting Thursday, July 10, 2025, the adoption of 12 new currencies in its official exchange rate bulletin against the ruble, a move aimed at expanding the network of financial partners and reducing reliance on the US dollar.
The new added currencies are:
- Algerian dinar
- Bahraini dinar
- Bangladeshi taka
- Bolivian boliviano
- Cuban peso
- Ethiopian birr
- Iranian rial
- Mongolian tugrik
- Myanmar kyat
- Nigerian naira
- Omani rial
- Saudi riyal
This decision brings the number of officially approved foreign currencies in Russia to 55, as part of a strategic drive to expand transactions in rubles and strengthen economic partnerships with countries in Asia, Africa, and the Arab world, away from the Western financial system.
