The former Saudi chief of intelligence, Maher Abdul Aziz Mutrab, contacted a Saudi official after the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi telling him “tell your master that the mission is done”, as the New York Times reported.

This came in a report published by the US newspaper on Monday, and included many details about the sound recordings of the Turkish authorities, which Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that it was informed by many countries.

The newspaper said that the call made by a Mutrab, who was one of the 15 Saudis who came to Istanbul to kill Khashoggi, where the phone call took place and the dialogue was in Arabic, and that the meaning of “your Master” in the conversation was none other than the Saudi Crown Prince himself Mohammad bin Salman.

According to the newspaper, the person who spoke was Mutrab, who is one of the aides to Crown Prince bin Salman.

While the newspaper pointed out that Turkish officials made it clear that the name of Mohammad bin Salman didn’t explicitly mentioned in the audio tape, pointed out that US intelligence officials consider that registration may not be undeniable evidence of the Crown Prince’s connection to the murder of Khashoggi.

The audio recordings would put more pressure on the US administration and President Donald Trump, who has close relations with the Saudi Crown Prince.

The news paper also noted that Gina Haspel, director of the Central Intelligence Agency CIA, heard these recordings during her recent visit to Turkey last October.

The Democrat MP Adam Schiff, who is expected to head the House Intelligence Committee during the new period of Congress, is quoted as saying that so far, it is difficult for US intelligence officials to come up with conclusive evidence against the Saudi crown prince directly.

“It is not realistic to wait for those who carried out this crime clearly and openly to show who took the orders or who they are linked to”, he said.

Once he becomes chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, he will investigate the case and will also conduct an extensive investigation into the Kingdom’s activities in the Middle East.

Khashoggi was killed inside his consulate in Istanbul in early October, and Riyadh later admitted the involvement of people from the government departments in the crime, without disclosing the fate of the body or extradition of defendants to appear in Turkish courts.
