The Lebanese government announced the ban on Hezbollah’s military activities
The Lebanese government on Monday announced a ban on Hezbollah’s military activities and the restriction of its work in the political arena.
The Lebanese government also tasked the army with decisively implementing the decision to limit weapons to the state, in a session that lasted four hours.
The Lebanese prime minister Nawaf Salam, told a news conference after a cabinet meeting that authorities would impose a ban on Hezbollah’s military activities and limit its activity to the political sphere only.
The decision means that Lebanon could be dragged into civil war if the party refrains from implementing the decision.
The Lebanese government’s move came after the party launched a rocket attack on Israel in response to the killing of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei.
Salam said that the cabinet condemned the rocket fire from Lebanon, which constitutes a departure from the agreement and the decisions of the cabinet.
He added: “The state has declared its absolute rejection of any military actions launched from its territory, and affirms that the decision of war and peace is in its hands, which calls for the ban of the party’s activities, obligation to surrender its weapons and commitment to political action”.
“I asked the army command to start implementing the plan in its part related to the arms control north of the Litani,” he added.
The Lebanese government asked the security services to carry out the aforementioned measures to prevent any military operations and to arrest the perpetrators.
