Sources in Damascus and Cairo, indicated that a preparations are taking place for a direct communication between Syrian President Bashar al Assad and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al Sisi, in a precedent that is the first between the two presidents.

According to available information, the dialogue will take place over the phone to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.

The sources suggested that raising the level of diplomatic representation between the two countries would be the essence of this communication, in addition to other issues such as the revival of the Syrian-Egyptian Joint Higher Committee, which stopped its activities with the beginning of the war in Syria ten years ago, as well as the issue of importing Egyptian gas through Syria to Lebanon, and developments at the level of Territory.

It was the first meeting at the level of foreign ministers after a rupture of ten years that took place between Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Miqdad and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings last month.

This was considered a qualitative leap in the relations of the two countries, paving the way for Cairo’s openness to Damascus.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were cut off by a decision of the late Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi in 2012, then Cairo restored a consular representation office in Damascus, after the overthrow of President Morsi and the Brotherhood movement in Egypt, and a phase of communication between the two countries began and was limited to the security and intelligence level in order to combat terrorism.

Newspaper reports said that Cairo had asked Ankara to withdraw from Syria as a condition for normalizing Egyptian-Turkish relations during the dialogue between the two countries with the aim of returning rapprochement and removing differences.
