The New York Times quoted advisers to US President Donald Trump as expecting the idea of ownership of the Gaza Strip to disappear after it became clear to the US President that it was not feasible.

The New York Times said – quoting sources it described as informed – that Trump’s proposal to control Gaza shocked even senior members of the US administration, and the sources stated that the administration didn’t conduct basic planning to examine the feasibility of this proposal.

For his part, former US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro said that Trump’s proposal isn’t serious and that putting it forward could lead to more extremism, according to what was reported by the New York Times.

Shapiro added that the repercussions of Trump’s proposal could jeopardize the release of more hostages in the Gaza Strip, as he put it.

Trump announced that the United States plans to take control of Gaza and resettle the Palestinians elsewhere.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also said on Wednesday that the Pentagon is prepared to consider all options regarding the Gaza Strip.

He continued, “The President is ready to think outside the box, and to look for new, unique and dynamic ways to solve problems that seemed intractable… We’re ready to study all options”.

Trump’s proposal drew significant Arab and international criticism, most notably from the United Nations and the Arab League, in addition to a number of countries, including Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, China, France, the UK and Russia.
