Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday that Israel had “settled the score” by assassinating Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike on a southern suburb of Beirut.

“We’ve settled the score with those responsible for the deaths of countless Israelis and many citizens of other countries, including hundreds of Americans and dozens of French,” Netanyahu said in a video, adding that Israel had reached what appears to be a historic turning point in the war against its enemies.

Netanyahu added, “Eliminating Nasrallah was a necessary step toward achieving the goal we set, which is to return the residents of the north safely to their homes and change the balance of power in the region for years to come”.

“His liquidation… increases the chances of our prisoners in the south returning… The more Yahya Sinwar sees that Hezbollah will no longer come to his aid, the greater the chances of our prisoners returning,” he added, saying that Israel is determined to continue striking our enemies.
