An article in the National Interest considered Kazakhstan’s accession to the Abraham Accords an unprecedented development that paves the way for normalization with the outside of the Middle East and strengthens Israel’s trade relations with the world.

In the article, Kazakhstan’s accession as the first non-Arab Muslim-majority country could take the agreements to the world.

Since the beginning of his term, US President Donald Trump has sought to persuade Central Asian capitals to join the agreements, in an effort to expand US and Israeli influence after the end of the Gaza war and strengthen Washington’s presence on the Asian continent.

Kazakhstan’s accession to the Abraham Accords could prompt other Central Asian countries within the P5+1 group, which includes Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan along with the United States, to take similar steps toward normalization with Israel.

According to the article, Washington may consider creating a new framework called the 6+2 group that includes Azerbaijan and Israel, which aims to expand coordination regarding regional security and link economic corridors in the region.

The recent peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the development of the Central Corridor — which connects Central Asia to the Mediterranean through the Caucasus — provide opportunities for Washington and Israel to access Central Asia’s vast mineral reserves.

These developments, along with plans to launch an economic corridor between Türkiye and Syria and rebuild the Hejaz Railway, create an opportunity to link trade flows from Central Asia to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.

The project is a major initiative connecting India to Europe across the Middle East, making Israel a central gateway to the Mediterranean and a key to future regional trade.

The article warned that Türkiye is a critical factor in any future expansion of the Abraham Accords, given its vast influence in Central Asia, and may derail the project unless its diplomatically involved in the arrangements for the next phase.

Kazakhstan’s accession marks the beginning of the transition from its Arab-Israeli framework to a broader platform for cooperation between multiple Muslim countries, and possibly toward Southeast Asia and the Horn of Africa in the future.
