Maariv: Retired Israeli brigadier general reveals the scenario that will break the Israeli army
Retired Israeli Brigadier General and former commander of the Galilee formation, Effi Eitam, spoke about a scenario that could lead to breaking the combat capabilities of the Israeli army.
Eitam stressed in an interview with Maariv newspaper that the Israeli army will face collapse if it faces two wars at the same time, as it’s not qualified to deal with two confrontations at the same time.
Regarding the extension of the military campaign to the northern borders, Eitam pointed out the necessity of focusing the fighting in Gaza first before thinking about expanding the scope of the conflict to the north, and explained that the reasons behind not embarking on a war in Lebanon at the present time are due to the inability of the Israeli army, which has been developed in recent years, to deal with two confrontations simultaneously intensively.
Eitam stressed that this problem will be solved immediately after the end of the war, but at the present time the conflict in Gaza must be ended first.
Regarding the tensions on the border with Hezbollah in Lebanon, Eitam indicated that there has been a continuous escalation and exchange of fire over the past four months, noting that the current situation doesn’t witness a comprehensive siege as is the case in the Gaza Strip.
The border between Lebanon and Israel has witnessed an escalation in tension between Lebanese Hezbollah and the Israeli forces since the beginning of the war in Gaza after Hamas surprise attack on October 7, last year.
Regarding the report of US intelligence officials, they indicated the erosion of Hamas’ combat capabilities without affecting the possibility of its destruction.
