The Israeli media, citing a senior official, revealed the identity of the Iranian actor who is participating in indirect negotiations with the United States, which US President Donald Trump has previously referred to.

According to the report, the speaker of Iran’s parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, is representing Tehran in these talks, noting that arrangements are being made to hold a meeting of officials from both sides in the Pakistani capital Islamabad later this week.

The Israeli official explained that his country was aware of the existence of mediation moves led by several parties to create an atmosphere between Washington and Tehran, but it was surprised by Trump’s statements, which spoke of tangible progress in these contacts and the existence of alleged understandings that include 15 points.

The leaks come hours after Trump said talks between the United States and Iran had been very positive and productive, while Iranian media officially denied any direct or indirect communication between the two sides.

According to Iranian Tasnim news agency who also quoted an informed source as saying that Iran isn’t conducting any negotiations with Washington on ending the conflict.

These developments are taking place in light of the continuation of tensions on the ground for the 24th day in a row, with the exchange of missile attacks and the use of drones, amid reports of mediation moves led by Qatar, Türkiye and Egypt with the aim of reaching a settlement.

Ghalibaf is one of Iran’s most prominent political figures and has close ties to the Revolutionary Guards, which gives him an important role in dealing with sensitive issues, including foreign issues.
