Germany earned billions by arms exports in 2022
Germany’s arms exports will reach 8.35 billion euros ($8.9 billion) in 2022, according to official figures released Tuesday.
The Federal German government indicated, in a written response to a parliamentary question, that Ukraine is the largest recipient of German weapons this year.
The German government stated that it had delivered weapons to Ukraine worth 2.24 billion Euros, since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war on February 24.
The German government stated that the German weapons provided to Ukraine included 30 Gepard tanks, 14 self-propelled howitzers and Iris-T air defense systems, according to official figures.
Despite the government’s insistence that it is pursuing a “peaceful foreign policy and promoting global disarmament,” the steady increase in its arms exports is drawing criticism from opposition parties.
Germany is now the fifth largest arms exporter in the world after the United States, Russia, France and China.
In 2021, German arms exports reached a record 9.35 billion Euros.
