German police announce the end of the hostage-taking crisis in Dresden and arrest the attacker
German police announced the end of a hostage-taking crisis that prompted them to evacuate a shopping center in the city center of Dresden and close the famous “Stretzel Markt”.
“The hostage-taking crisis in Dresden is over,” police said on Saturday, adding that they were providing protection for two people who appeared to be unharmed.
Two people were released and the suspect was arrested in the detention process in eastern Germany.
German media including Bild newspaper reported that a man armed with a gun had taken refuge in a shop in a shopping center after opening fire in a radio station building in the Saxony city.
Bild newspaper added that the 40-year-old shooter killed a woman before resorting to the mall, without specifying the location of the woman’s killing.
