Financial Times: Despite the many strikes… Israel fails to deter its enemies
The Financial Times reported that the numerous strikes launched by the Israel since the seventh of October haven’t succeeded in deterring its enemies.
The Financial Times noted that Israel has been exchanging blows with Hezbollah with increasing ferocity for months, while, it’s now difficult to imagine how targeting the southern suburbs of Beirut yesterday doesn’t provoke a more forceful reaction, pushing opponents further into the dangerous cycle of escalation.
The US, which has pledged its firm commitment to defend Israel, may be in danger of being dragged into a deeper conflict, with its forces in Iraq and Syria likely to be targets, according to the Financial Times.
International shipments, already under attack from Yemen in the Red Sea, could face even greater threats, while Arab countries are concerned about potential side effects.
According to the Financial Times, this is the nightmare scenario that regional powers have warned against throughout the Israeli war on Gaza.
US-led efforts to end the war have faltered, as they have been dealt a severe blow by assassinating Haniyeh, Hamas’s main interlocutor with mediators.
The United States, and the region, are struggling daily to manage a crisis that has become more complex and deadly.
Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli bombardment, targeting the Iranian capital Tehran at dawn today.
The assassination came during a visit by Haniyeh to Tehran, to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and after a meeting on Wednesday with the leader of the revolution and the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei, and hours after an attack on the southern suburbs of Beirut, which led to the death and injury of civilians, and Israel announced that it was an attempt to assassinate one of the leaders of the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon.
The Palestinian resistance vowed to respond to the assassination of Haniyeh, and Iran vowed to respond, saying through the leader of the revolution and the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei, that the “criminal terrorist Israeli occupation entity prepared for itself a harsh punishment through its attack on the capital, Tehran, and its assassination of the head of Hamas’ political bureau”.
