The Canadian military has developed a military model that simulates a hypothetical US invasion, with President Donald Trump hinting at the possibility of annexing Canada.

According to Canadian high-ranking government officials, “the Canadian response scenario is based on tactics similar to those used by the mujahideen in Afghanistan, to resist Soviet and later US forces”.

Canadian officials expressed their belief that Trump was unlikely to order the invasion of Canada.

After his re-election in 2024, Trump repeatedly referred to Canada, the United States’ northern neighbor, as the 51st US state, stressing that annexation would benefit Canadians.

Although he has been quiet on the subject in recent months, Trump posted a photo on social media last night showing a map of Canada covered with the US flag alongside Venezuela, an implicit reference to his desire for full control of the two countries.

The two officials explained that in the event of an invasion, US forces would be able to take control of Canadian positions by land and sea in just two days.

Given Canada’s lack of the military resources needed to resist the United States, its response would be similar to a rebellion campaign, including ambushes and hit-and-run tactics, according to the report.

The model under development is a conceptual and theoretical framework, not a military plan, but a practical direction and specific steps to carry out operations.

The Canadian military expects clear indications if the United States plans to invade Canada, including a decision to end bilateral cooperation at the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD), and Canada would likely turn to Britain and France for help.

US President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney are attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this week.

Trump’s threats to take control of Greenland overshadowed the annual meeting of political and financial elites.

Trump’s demand for US control of the Danish region was a test for NATO, which includes Canada.

Carney is reportedly considering sending a limited number of troops to Greenland, like other NATO allies, as a gesture of support for the island.
