Axios: The United States, Israel and Qatar hold a secret meeting to discuss restoring relations in the wake of the Israeli strike on Doha
The United States, Israel and Qatar are holding a secret meeting in New York on Sunday to discuss restoring relations in the wake of Israel’s strike on Doha, Axios reported, citing sources.
According to Axios, the meeting will be held in the presence of US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Mossad Director David Barnea and a senior Qatari official.
Its noteworthy that this is the meeting at the highest level since the agreement on a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which Qatar was mediating.
The meeting is being held as the administration of US President Donald Trump prepares to announce the transition to a new phase in the implementation of the peace plan for the Gaza Strip.
This will be the first meeting under the new mechanism to enhance coordination, develop communication, settle disputes and strengthen collective efforts to address risks, which Washington has shown.
Israel struck Doha on September 9 in an attempt to target a number of senior Hamas leaders.
In the aftermath of the strike, in which a Qatari security officer as well as several Hamas officials were killed and senior Hamas leaders survived, Qatar announced the suspension of its mediation role in the settlement process.
The Israeli prime minister later apologized to Qatar, while Trump announced that he would ensure that such Israeli attacks on Qatar wouldn’t be repeated.
