The Washington Post published an article by Mark Thiessen, titled “What is the definition of victory in Iran? Here Are Three Definitions”.

The author disagrees with the view that the war in Iran should be ended prematurely, arguing that the military operation is on its way to resounding success in the complete elimination of the Iranian threat.

It presents three levels of success in the military operation in Iran, the first of which is to eliminate the Iranian regime’s ability to extend its influence beyond its borders by dismantling Iranian forces, command and control centers, stockpiles of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles, production capacity, and terrorist infrastructure.

Accomplishing this mission, Thiessen wrote, would lead to “military paralysis of Iran, it won’t be able to launch missiles or drones, or provide weapons to its proxies, and it will decisively impede its nuclear and ballistic missile programs”.

The second level of success, according to the author, is the collapse of the Iranian regime and the formation of a new government that is accountable to Washington, by targeting more leaders.

“As assassination strikes escalate, the regime will begin to disintegrate from within… Some leaders may choose to cooperate with the United States, just as the remnants of the Maduro regime are doing in Venezuela”.

Later, “with the Iranian people’s uprising and the restoration of their homeland,” the third level of success was achieved, according to Thiessen.

“When the clouds clear, Iranians are likely to take to the streets to restore their institutions, or form a transitional government that will eventually give way to a government chosen by the people”.

Mark Thiessen warns of the danger of ending the military campaign prematurely, before the collapse of the Iranian regime, as this represents Iran’s victory and an opportunity to continue its jihadist campaign against the West.
