What is the truth of Ali Larijani’s statements about the capture of US soldiers?
The announcement of the Secretary-General of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, about the capture of a number of American soldiers, sparked controversy after a difference in the content of his statements between the Persian and English versions he posted on X.
In the Persian-language post, Larijani said that “a number of American soldiers have been captured,” and noted that the mention of the deaths of five or six American soldiers is inaccurate, adding that some quarters may later announce a higher death toll under the pretext of an accident.
In the English version of the statement, its stated that he has received information that US soldiers have been captured in a country in the region, without providing further details.
So far, there has been no official comment from the United States on these statements.
In a related context, Larijani stressed that Iran will respond to any attack launched against it from military bases in the region, stressing that this response is considered – as he put it – a “legitimate right” and a fixed policy.
Larijani also called on countries in the region to prevent the use of their territory to launch attacks on Iran, warning that Tehran could take action on its own if this doesn’t happen.
