Egypt will supply Syria with Israeli Gas extracted from the Mediterranean Sea!
According to Israeli sources, Syria has already started receiving natural gas supplies through Jordan and Egypt to operate power plants, in a move that raised its production capacity to about 3000 megawatts.
The report, which reflects Israel’s vision, noted that the move comes within the framework of two agreements recently signed by Egypt to supply natural gas to both Lebanon and Syria, adding that the gas destined for the two countries is likely to be extracted from Israeli gas fields in the Mediterranean.
According to reports, the agreement includes the purchase of quantities of up to 4 million cubic meters of gas per day, as part of an annual deal valued at about $800 million, with the aim of ensuring stable energy sources and improving basic services for the Syrians.
The Syrian Ministry of Energy announced last Thursday the start of pumping gas to the Nasiriyah power plant in the Damascus countryside, noting that this measure will contribute significantly to improving the electricity supply according to the approved operating plans.
The report quoted that Syrian Energy Minister Mohammed al Bashir personally announced the start of pumping during a field visit to the plant, where he met with management and technicians, and listened to operational challenges, before releasing the gas valve to mark the start of receiving supplies coming through Jordan.
He explained that the Nasiriyah plant, which has a production capacity of 450 megawatts, has been operating in the past years at less than 30% of its capacity due to fuel shortages.
Now, its full operation will directly contribute to raising Syria’s total electricity production to 3,000 megawatts.
These developments don’t come in a vacuum, but rather fall within a broader geopolitical context, which may reflect a “revival of an old US plan” to supply Israel’s natural gas to neighboring countries — including former enemies — under Washington’s auspices, as a means of promoting regional stability and linking economic interests.
What years ago, was seen as a far-fetched vision — that is, Israel supplying gas to all of its neighbors — is gradually becoming a reality, with Israeli gas flowing through the networks of Egypt and Jordan to the heart of the Syrian capital Damascus!
