Thailand and Cambodia announce agreement on immediate ceasefire after boarders’ clashes
Thailand and Cambodia announced on Saturday that they had agreed to an immediate ceasefire, according to a joint statement from the two countries, which have vowed to end weeks of bloody border clashes.
This month, military confrontations between the two neighboring countries have been renewed as a result of their long-standing border disputes, leading to the collapse of an existing truce, the death of at least 47 people and the displacement of 1 million, according to official figures.
“The two parties agree on an immediate ceasefire immediately upon the signing of this joint statement, effective as of 12:00 pm (05:00 GMT) on December 27, 2025, and includes all types of weapons, attacks on civilians, civilian objectives, infrastructure, military objectives of both sides, and in all cases and all areas,” the statement issued by the Cambodian side said.
The statement added that the two sides agreed to freeze all troop movements and allow civilians living in border areas to return home as soon as possible.
They also agreed to cooperate in demining and combating cybercrime.
The United States, China and Malaysia have pressed the two neighboring countries to stop the fighting.
