Mali could run out of fuel in two weeks if supplies are cut off
reported on Monday that a source close to the Chamber of Commerce in Mali stated that fuel could run out in the country within two weeks if supplies are completely cut off.
According to sources, the Truck Drivers’ Union said that gunmen destroyed at least 40 fuel tankers on Sunday, following an attack on a convoy of more than 100 vehicles under Malian military escort.
The source close to the “JNIM” group reported the destruction of 80 trucks on the Khay-Bamako axis.
According to the information, the “Group to Support Islam and Muslims” claimed responsibility for the attack in the west of the country in a video message, saying that the Malian soldiers accompanying the convoy “flew the scene”.
For its part, the Malian army announced in a statement that it had “been subjected to a terrorist attack” during a mission to secure people and goods on the road linking Bamako and Khai, adding that it had responded forcefully, without providing further details.
The “JNIM” group had previously announced a siege on the cities of Khai and Nioro, and a ban on fuel entering Mali from neighboring countries.
