Ukrainian drones’ attacks target several areas in southern Russia
Three people were killed in Russia as a result of Ukrainian drone strikes overnight Friday and Saturday in the Rostov and Penza regions (southern Russia) and in the Samara region, far from the front line, local authorities announced.
For its part, the Russian army reported that it intercepted 112 drones launched from Ukraine overnight.
In a rare incident, the bombing targeted the Samara region, approximately 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, where one of the victims was an “elderly man,” according to regional governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev.
The governor explained on Telegram that the man was inside a rural house that caught fire due to falling drone debris.
In the Penza region, located between Samara and the Ukrainian border, Governor Oleg Melnichenko said, “Early this morning, enemy drones attacked a company again”.
“Unfortunately, a woman was killed and two other people were injured,” he added, “however, their condition isn’t critical”.
In the Rostov region bordering Ukraine, the Russian army repelled a massive attack overnight and destroyed drones” over several cities, Governor Yuri Slyusar reported on Telegram.
“In the village of Uglerudovsky in the Krasnosolensky District, a fire broke out in one of the buildings at an industrial site,” he added, noting that “an employee who was guarding the facility was killed”.
Russia attacked Ukraine in July with the largest number of drones in a single month since it began its invasion in February 2022.
The Kremlin rejects the idea of a permanent ceasefire in Ukraine, believing it would benefit Kyiv’s forces, despite US President Donald Trump’s expression of displeasure with this rejection.
For its part, Ukraine is demanding air defense systems from its European allies, and Germany announced on Friday that it would quickly begin delivering two additional Patriot systems.
