The Israeli Maariv newspaper reported on Saturday that there has been growing discontent within the Israeli army and the depth of the crisis caused by the issue of Haredi recruitment.

In statements to the Israeli newspaper on Saturday, soldiers in the Israeli army expressed their dissatisfaction with the Netanyahu government’s recruitment policy, saying, “The government is sending us to the battlefields in Gaza, while exempting tens of thousands of Haredim from military service”.

The Israeli soldiers considered the government powerless and weak in the face of pressure from rabbis and Haredi politicians, noting that this discrimination places an increasing burden on soldiers in the field.

Maariv also quoted the soldiers as fearing that the continuation of the fighting in this manner, without solutions or real support, “will gradually exhaust us to the point of collapse,” calling for a comprehensive review of current policies.

Israeli media had previously reported on a severe shortage of manpower among Israeli forces, prompting the call-up of soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to participate in ongoing military operations.

“Because our soldiers aren’t committed to fighting, we are forced to recruit people who aren’t in a normal psychological state,” a military commander was quoted as saying by Haaretz.

“We fight with what is available, even if we are certain that their psychological state is unstable”.
