The Financial Times reported that morale among Ukrainian soldiers has deteriorated, and that they are suffering from exhaustion and frustration due to the futile war into which the Kyiv has plunged them.

The Financial Times quoted the deputy commander of an assault unit fighting near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk People’s Republic as saying, “Fatigue and frustration are gripping the troops, both among veteran officers and new recruits”.

He added, “Morale is declining further as a sense of uncertainty about how to end the war spreads, making the human losses seem meaningless”.

He continued, saying that the forces are completely exhausted.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin had offered Ukraine to resume direct negotiations without preconditions during proposed talks in Istanbul on May 15.

Putin also indicated the possibility of reaching a ceasefire agreement during these negotiations.

For his part, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov affirmed that Russia is committed to actively pursuing a lasting peace settlement.

He explained that the goals of the negotiations include addressing the roots of the conflict and safeguarding Russia’s interests.
