US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday regarding “combating anti-Semitism,” which allows the deportation of students who participate in demonstrations in support of Palestine.

Trump said he signed an executive order adding new measures to the executive order he signed in 2019 on combating anti-Semitism.

The executive order opens the door to the deportation of students who support Palestine in the United States and participate in various protests in this context.

Trump claimed that discrimination and threats against Jewish students at American universities increased after October 7, 2023.

He pointed to the demonstrations that continued for months in several universities in protest against the genocide committed by Israel in Gaza.

“We’ll combat anti-Semitism vigorously, using all available and appropriate legal tools, and hold accountable those who commit anti-Semitic crimes, harassment, and violence,” the executive order said.

Under the executive order, the US Department of State, Department of Education and Department of Homeland Security can work together to report on foreign students who engage in anti-Semitic activities and take steps if necessary, to deport them.

The text of the executive order referred to a section of US law that states that foreign nationals can be barred from entering the United States for security reasons.

It’s noteworthy that thousands of students in several American universities organized peaceful demonstrations for several months in 2024 targeting Israel and the US administration that provided it with unconditional support, while the genocide committed by Israel in Gaza.
