The Israeli army attempt to free an Israeli prisoner in Gaza however the special force escaped after falling into a trap
Channel 12 revealed that the Israeli prisoner in the Gaza Strip, Sahar Baruch, who the Israeli army announced was killed by Hamas a year ago, was found to have been killed in a failed attempt to rescue him.
Channel 12 said that the military censorship allowed the publication of details of the attempt to rescue Baruch, including that about a year ago, a special military force set out on a mission to free the captive Noa Argamani (whom the army announced last June that it had recovered along with 3 Israeli captives after a military operation in the Nuseirat camp), and the special unit fighters thought they were going to rescue Argamani, but it later turned out that the intelligence information they had obtained was wrong, and that the person present at the scene was a captive named Saher Baruch.
According to channel 12, “The soldiers reached the building, opened the entrance door, and immediately at the first moment the militants opened fire on them with a heavy barrage of bullets, and the rescue operation suddenly turned into an operation to evacuate the wounded, as a number of members of the special unit were seriously injured during the confrontation”.
According to channel 12, “The soldiers returned after many hours, and at that time the Military Intelligence Service (Aman) received intelligence information that shocked everyone, as it became clear that the person who was in the building wasn’t Noa Argaman, but the prisoner Saher Baruch, who was captured from his home in Be’eri”.
Channel 12 reported, “during the rescue operation and the fierce battle that took place inside the building, Sahar was killed by a gunshot to the head, and to this day, it remains unclear whether he was killed by the gunmen or was accidentally hit by the forces’ fire”.
Sahar Baruch’s family told Channel 12, “Military pressure could lead to the deaths of prisoners… We hope that there will be no more deaths of this kind, and that all prisoners will return as soon as possible through a deal”.
During the past period, dozens of Israeli prisoners were killed in Gaza due to bombing or during Israeli operations inside the Strip, and some of them were killed during failed attempts to free them.
In early September, there was a state of anger in Israel against Benjamin Netanyahu’s government after the occupation army announced the recovery of the bodies of 6 detainees after they were found inside a tunnel in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas announced that the prisoners were killed by the ongoing Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip, and held the Netanyahu government and the US administration responsible for their deaths and the deaths of previous prisoners.
Hamas said in previous statements that dozens of prisoners were killed by Israeli bombardment across the Strip during the 11-month war.
With each announcement that the Israeli army has recovered the bodies of prisoners from Gaza, protests in Israel and accusations against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of obstructing prisoner exchange and ceasefire negotiations escalate.
