Events unfolded quickly and dramatically at dawn on Sunday, as the armed Syrian opposition announced that it had begun entering the capital, Damascus, while Reuters quoted high-ranking Syrian officials as saying that President Bashar al Assad had left Damascus to an unknown destination.

Reuters reported that its source, two senior Syrian army officers, confirmed to it that he had left on a plane to an undisclosed destination.

Saturday/Sunday night began with an exciting development, as the opposition succeeded in controlling the city of Homs, the third largest city in Syria, joining the cities of Aleppo and Hama, which the opposition had previously controlled, in addition to its control over the entire Idlib province.

The armed Syrian opposition quickly announced that it had managed to control the Syrian Radio and Television building.

Meanwhile, The New York Times, quoted officials in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard confirming that the armed opposition had entered the capital, Damascus, and that the regime forces were withdrawing.

Events continued to unfold, as local sources reported that demonstrators had reached Umayyad Square in the center of the Syrian capital, Damascus, while Syrian websites confirmed that all flights at Damascus International Airport had been halted and that it had been evacuated of its employees.

At six o’clock this morning, Sunday, local time, the armed Syrian opposition said, “The free Syrian people have brought down Bashar al Assad”.

In parallel, sources from the armed opposition confirmed that officers and members of the army and security forces had withdrawn from the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff in Damascus.

Reuters quoted an informed Syrian military source as saying that the Syrian army command informed officers of the fall of the regime.

Regarding Assad’s fate, there were conflicting reports about his fate, as sources reported that the plane carrying him crashed, amid other information about its disappearance.

A plane-tracking website reported that a Syrian plane suspected of carrying Assad left Damascus International Airport before the opposition entered.

According to the Flight Radar website, which tracks planes, “the plane flew northwest, then turned near Homs and disappeared”.

In turn, the open source intelligence “OSINT defender” stated that rumors indicate that the IL-76 plane carrying Assad either crashed or made an emergency landing west of Homs, after taking off earlier from Damascus International Airport,” explaining that “the plane landed at an altitude of 1,600 feet, before disappearing from radar screens”.

It’s very high probability that Syrian President Bashar al Assad was Killed last night in a Plane Crash near the City of Homs, with his Aircraft believed to have been Shot Down after leaving Damascus International Airport.

In turn, news platforms close to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard reported on Sunday morning that the plane carrying Assad had crashed.

The sources reported that there are initial but unconfirmed indications that the plane carrying Bashar al Assad appears to have crashed or made an emergency landing in an unknown location.

The Wall Street Journal quoted Syrian security officials as saying that Assad had left his country to an unknown destination.

Assad’s departure from Syria came after his wife and children left for Russia last week.
