Ukrainian authorities announced on Sunday that they had thwarted an attack targeting Kyiv launched by Russia using ballistic missiles, without indicating any casualties or damage.

“Early in the morning, around 05:00 (02:00 GMT), the enemy used ballistic weapons to launch a missile attack on Kyiv,” the Ukrainian capital’s civil administration said via Telegram.

The statement added that it’s likely that these weapons are North Korean KN-23 missiles, noting that the missiles were intercepted as they approached the capital and prevented from reaching their targets.

Kyiv authorities indicated that, in conjunction with the missile attack, Moscow launched drones towards the city, all of which were destroyed by air defenses outside the capital.

Local authorities confirmed that no damage was recorded in Kiev, and no information was received regarding casualties.

The governor of Russia’s southwestern Rostov region said on Sunday that wreckage from a downed Ukrainian drone had caused a diesel fire at an industrial warehouse in the region.

“Firefighting units have been called in to extinguish the fire,” regional governor Vasily Golubev said via Telegram.

According to sources, the oil depot was damaged in Rostov.

Ukraine has frequently been subjected to missile and drone attacks from Moscow since Russia began its invasion of its neighbor’s territory in early 2022.

Kyiv has repeatedly demanded that its Western allies provide it with more missile systems to protect its airspace.

Western countries allied with Ukraine accuse North Korea of providing military support to Russia in this war, in exchange for its assistance in the field of space.

On the other side of the border, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that its air defenses shot down five drones launched by Ukraine on Saturday night in the airspace of the border regions of Belgorod and Rostov.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Saturday that his forces were reinforcing their positions in the Kursk region, more than ten days after the start of an unprecedented major attack by Kiev on Russian territory.
