The US army appointing the Iranian origin Admiral Kavon Hakimzadeh as commander of the Second Assault Group of the Fifth Fleet in the Middle East

The United States has appointed Admiral Kavon “Hak” Hakimzadeh as commander of the Second Assault Group of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in the Middle East, under the supervision of US Central Command (CENTCOM).

Central Command confirmed on X that the second attack group is now under capable and competent command.

Founded in 1931, this fleet comprises 9 squadrons and currently operates as part of the US Fifth Fleet in the Middle East.

Its main task is to support the security and stability of maritime traffic in the region.

The flotilla also participated in US operations against ISIS in 2014.

Born in Texas in 1968 to an Iranian father and an American mother, Admiral Hakimzadeh moved to Iran as a child, however, returned to the United States with his family after the Iranian Revolution in 1979.

Hakimzadeh received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, then joined the US Naval Training Corps in 1992.

He also received master’s degrees from Old Dominion University, the Naval War College, and the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

Throughout his career, Hakimzadeh has held command positions in several naval squadrons aboard the ships USS Harry Truman, USS Mount Whitney, and USS John Sea.

He also served as a strike war analyst and executive assistant on Pentagon military missions.

Admiral Hakimzadeh has recorded more than 3,100 flight hours and has received several honors, including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, and the Distinguished Service Medal for Defense.
