The Swiss conference for Ukraine: 11 countries refuses to sign the final communiqué on Ukraine
Eleven countries participating in the Swiss conference on Ukraine refused to sign the final communiqué of the conference, which ends on Sunday.
The final communiqué of the conference in Bürgenstock was supported by 80 of the 91 countries that participated in the forum, and the list of countries that approved the document was published by the organizers of the meeting.
Armenia, Bahrain, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Libya, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates were on the list of those who abstained from signing the statement.
Beside these countries, a number of countries have complaints about the wording of the final statement.
The statement included the following key points:
Release all prisoners of war captured during the conflict in Ukraine.
Operate the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant and nuclear facilities safely and protected under Ukrainian control.
Food security shouldn’t be used in any way for military purposes.
Attacks on ships and ports are unacceptable.
Peace must be based on international law and in particular the Charter of the United Nations.
The return of all children and civilians to Ukraine.
The conference on Ukraine was held in Switzerland on June 15-16 near Lucerne, in the resort town of Bürgenstock.
It should be noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed on more than one occasion his readiness to negotiate, but based on the reality on the ground and Russia’s security demands and not on the basis of wishes.
