China discovers new oil field in the sea
The China National Offshore Oil Corporation announced the discovery of the “Bozhong 26-6” oil field, which is considered the largest metamorphic shale oil field in the world, in the southern Bohai Sea.
The new field is located 170 kilometers from Tianjin Municipality and contains a record amount of oil and gas.
According to China Media Group, the proven oil and gas reserves in the Puchong 26-6 field are estimated at more than 40 million cubic meters, while the cumulative proven reserves of the field exceed 200 million cubic meters.
A layer of oil and gas was discovered during the exploration work, reaching a depth of 118 meters.
Average daily oil production is expected to exceed 390 cubic meters (2,453 barrels), while average daily gas production is expected to exceed 50,000 cubic meters.
This is a record test production capacity for newly discovered wells in the field.
This discovery comes within the framework of China’s ongoing efforts to expand the oil supply base and enhance energy self-sufficiency, and strengthens China’s position as a major player in the oil and gas industry at the local and global levels.
