New York Times: The United States tried to prevent a Ukrainian plot to assassinate the Russian Chief of Staff
A report published by the New York Times said that US officials tried to prevent Kyiv from launching an attack on the Russian Chief of Staff, Valery Gerasimov, with the aim of assassinating him.
The New York Times stated in its report that the US administration was the first to discover that Gerasimov was planning to visit the front lines of his forces in Ukraine, but the United States didn’t pass this information on to Ukraine, fearing that the attempt on his life would lead to a war between the United States and Russia.
The New York Times added that after Kyiv learned the news of the visit, US officials tried unsuccessfully to persuade Ukraine to cancel the attack, as Ukraine went ahead with implementing its plan, but Gerasimov was unharmed.
