Navy Times: The US Navy Seals forces are changing their military doctrine

The US Navy Seals forces are classified among the most dangerous special forces in the world, and they carried out many counterterrorism missions in the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan during the past two decades, the most prominent of which was the killing of Osama bin Laden, the terrorist leader of al Qaeda.

Over the past years, counter-terrorism operations have remained the focus of the military doctrine of those forces whose members have great combat efficiency compared to their counterparts from the US military units, according to the US Navy Times.

The newspaper says that the US Navy Seals forces have begun a process of major change in their military doctrine, which they have relied on in recent years, to move from counterterrorism operations to focusing on confronting global threats posed by the armies of major countries such as Russia and China.

The Navy Times pointed out that the new doctrine of these forces depends on reducing the number of factions that make up the Navy Seals forces, at the same time that the number of soldiers for each platoon is increased to increase its military ability to carry out more professional operations on the surface of the sea or underwater.

It is noteworthy that some units of those forces have witnessed major scandals and crises during the past years that have negatively affected their reputation and performance, according to the Navy Times, which indicated that a recount is underway for its members to ensure their efficiency in continuing to work according to the new standards.

The Navy Times pointed out that Admiral Hugh Howard, Supreme Commander of the US “SLS” forces, said that the focus of those forces’ personnel was on fighting in the Iraqi desert and the mountains of Afghanistan during the past two decades.

He continued, “As for now, the focus of the US Navy Seals forces must be on returning to carry out special missions at sea.

The Navy Times says that these changes regarding the US Navy Seals forces reflect the strategy of the Pentagon, to confront the growing military capabilities of Russia and China and increase their global influence.
