The Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the Israeli army’s Golani Brigade has launched intensive live-fire exercises in the Galilee, training on foot across terrain designed to resemble Hezbollah’s strongholds in southern Lebanon.

According to the report, the drills are taking place in what the paper described as “Area 100” in northern Israel.

The exercises involve infantry units advancing primarily on foot over a distance exceeding 20 kilometers across three days, moving through steep and rugged mountainous terrain intended to replicate the operational environment the brigade could face in Lebanon.

The Israeli newspaper said the maneuver is considered unprecedented in its format, focusing on sustained ground movement under live-fire conditions rather than conventional short-range drills.

The training reportedly emphasizes endurance, coordination between small units, and combat readiness in complex topography similar to Hezbollah’s deployment zones.

Yedioth Ahronoth linked the timing of the exercise to rising regional tensions, noting assessments that Iran is encouraging Hezbollah to prepare for the possibility of joining a wider confrontation involving the United States and Israel.

In response, the Israeli military appears to be intensifying preparedness along the northern front.

Military analysts cited by the newspaper indicated that the Golani Brigade, one of the Israeli army’s elite infantry formations, is prioritizing lessons from recent border clashes and the challenges posed by Hezbollah’s fortified positions, underground infrastructure, and familiarity with mountainous terrain.

The report didn’t indicate that the drills signal an imminent operation, but framed them as part of broader Israeli efforts to maintain readiness for a potential multi-front escalation in the north.
