Wall Street Journal: India to build Himalayan transport lines in preparation for possible conflict with China
Indian authorities are spending hundreds of millions of dollars building roads, tunnels, take-off and landing lanes in the Himalayas, the Wall Street Journal said.
India is taking these emergency measures as part of preparations for a possible conflict with its neighbor China.
According to the WSJ, India plans to connect the high mountainous areas with military sites and civilian residential centers that remain isolated during the winter.
“One of the most ambitious projects is the Zogela Tunnel, which is being dug in the mountains of northern India at an altitude of about 11,500 feet (3.5 kilometers),” according to the WSJ added.
