Türkiye is facing a direct threat as Israel announces signing military program with Greece and Greek Cypriots for 2026
The Israeli army announced on Sunday the signing of a trilateral military cooperation program with Greece and Greek Cypriots for 2026.
The program was signed last week in the Greek Cypriot capital of Nicosia, during a joint annual meeting that included representatives of the armies of the three countries, with the aim of coordinating and strengthening military cooperation frameworks between them, the Israeli army said in a statement.
The statement pointed out that the Israeli delegation was headed by the head of the Army’s Foreign Relations Division, Brigadier Gen. Amit Adler, who held separate meetings with his counterparts from Greece and Greek Cypriots to discuss areas of cooperation during the next phase.
According to the statement, the work programs include the implementation of joint military exercises and exercises, the formation of working groups in various fields, in addition to the development of strategic military dialogue on issues of common interest.
The announcement of the agreements follows a trilateral summit that brought together Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides a few days ago in West Jerusalem.
Speaking at the summit, the Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Ünal Östal, said that the Israeli government, which is pursuing aggressive policies and trampling on human values in the Middle East, is now trying to transfer this turmoil to the Eastern Mediterranean.
In a statement, Östal noted that the three countries, instead of promoting the ground for peace, stability and cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean, have chosen to escalate tensions, military agglomeration and exclusionary policies.
He added that his country is closely monitoring the trilateral summit and the plans leaked to the media to establish a joint military force.
Östal said that the ongoing attempts to take the region out of being a peace arena and turn it into a theater of conflict threaten not only the island of Cyprus, but also the Mediterranean basin. and that the Greek-Cypriot duo’s acceptance of being mere pawns in this dangerous conspiracy is a historic mistake.
